Quote of the Day

Standard

Many wealthy people are little more than janitors of their possessions.

   –Frank Lloyd Wright

What about it, folks?  Is there truth in this quote?  If you’ve ever owned a pool, boat, or RV, I bet you can relate.  Do you feel like your stuff owns you?  That you’re always spending time and money fixing things?  I don’t think you have to be wealthy to have this feeling.  Even an HVAC system or security system or sprinkler system or Direct TV that goes out can make us crazy.

I would like to simplify.

I’ve been reading the bestseller “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up” by Marie Kondo.  It’s all about discarding things and only keeping those possessions that “spark joy” and then finding a place for everything.  I need this.  I’ve dipped my big toe into this by organizing three of my drawers according to her directions.  She advocates folding more, hanging less.  I’ll let you know how it goes.  And I’ll have pictures. tidying up book

In the meantime, look around your place.  What sparks joy?

  1. So excited to follow your blog!!! Had to comment on this post – LOVE this book. It has changed the way I think about “stuff” that clutters my house and ultimately my life – physically and mentally! I find joy in the drawers full of clothes folded vertically and easy to see and choose. Never thought folding clothes would bring me joy – hell has frozen over!!! I could go on and on! Not sure why this book made the lightbulb go off – but I’m glad it did. Happy blogging!!!
